Job Overview:
A law firm seeks an experienced and passionate Family Law Litigation Attorney to join their dedicated legal team in southern Maine. The firm focuses on all aspects of marital and family law, with a particular emphasis on divorce. Duties:

  • Manage a full caseload of family law matters, including divorce, spousal support, child custody, and protection from abuse cases.
  • Conduct final contested hearings, emergency interim hearings, and other court proceedings.
  • Collaborate with expert witnesses and handle cases involving financial misconduct, asset distribution, and spousal support.
  • Prepare and conduct depositions, discovery, and financial investigations.
  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, interrogatories, and motions for both routine and complex family law matters.
  • Engage in active litigation strategies and represent clients in court proceedings, ensuring thorough case preparation.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, advising them on case developments and legal strategies.
  • Collaborate with legal assistants and paralegals to manage cases efficiently.

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in Maine, or willing to obtain a Maine Bar License.
  • Extensive family law litigation experience, including contested hearings, depositions, and complex financial matters.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain legal issues to clients clearly and compassionately.
  • Proven ability to manage high-stress situations and pivot quickly when necessary.
  • Conflict resolution skills, with a focus on negotiating solutions for clients while remaining firm when needed in litigation.
  • Comfortable working in a structured office environment with some remote work flexibility.
  • Eager to contribute to the firm's litigation strategies and actively participate in decision-making.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Maine Bar License, or eligibility to obtain Maine Bar membership.

Skills:

  • Expertise in family law litigation, including financial asset distribution, spousal support, and custody disputes.
  • Proficiency in legal research, drafting, and courtroom advocacy.
  • High emotional intelligence with excellent client management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple complex cases simultaneously.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage high-stakes, time-sensitive legal matters.
